چکیده

We demonstrate a zero-crossing Shapiro step generated in a magnetically-coupled Josephson gate, where a long Josephson junction and a control line are placed in-line. The operation is based on the imbalanced evolution of the junction phases owing to the different amplitudes of the positive and negative critical current. A test circuit was fabricated using a Nb/AlOx/Nb junction technology. When we applied a rf signal of 15.2GHz, we observed a Shapiro step that crossed the zero-current axis at the voltage position of the 1st order. The experimental results were quantitatively reproduced by simulation.

Zero-crossing Shapiro steps in high-Tc superconducting microstructures tailored by a focused ion beam

Microwave response of S-shaped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x BI-2212 micron-scale samples, in which the supercurrent was forced to flow perpendicular to the crystal layers, was investigated. A treatment with a focused ion beam allowed us to reduce the plasma frequency down to fp 5 GHz at T=0.3 K in naturally stacked Josephson junctions in a crystal. We observed Shapiro steps at frequencies as low as 5 GHz. W...

FERMIONS Doubling down on Majorana

Ettore Majorana has been missing for 74 years, but his most important legacy in physics is lately very much in the news. The still-hypothetical Majorana fermion is in a sense a completely ‘real’ particle — its mathematical representation doesn’t have an imaginary part — it is, therefore, its own antiparticle. Whereas particle physics was the context of the original proposal — and experiments ai...

Alternating current Josephson effect and resonant superconducting transport through vibrating Nb nanowires.

In 1962, Josephson made a celebrated prediction: when a constant voltage is applied across a thin insulator separating two superconductors, it will generate an oscillating current. These oscillations are ubiquitous in superconducting weak links of various geometries, and analogues have been found in other macroscopic quantum systems, such as superfluids and gaseous Bose-Einstein condensates. Th...

Carbon nanotube Josephson junctions with Nb contacts

We report on the preparation of carbon nanotube Josephson junctions using superconducting electrodes made of niobium. Gate-controllable supercurrents with values of up to 30 nA are induced by the proximity effect. The IV curves are hysteretic at low temperature and the corresponding switching histograms have a width of 0.5%–2%. An on-chip resistive environment integrated in the sample layout is...

Dynamic Response of Jospephson Resistive Logic (JAWS) GATE

--In this paper a thorough investigation of resistive logic gate, JAWS (Josephson Auto-Weber System) has been made. The current equations of this gate at each stage have been deduced. The dynamic response of this gate has been obtained by the computer-simulation. Our concept of turn-on delay of Josephson junction has been introduced. The effect of overdrive current on turn-on delay for JAWS res...
